100% BLIND DISCOVERIES

ANON:Stage

What is ANON

Our Goal is to Ask and Answer ONE QUESTION: Can you actually CAST successfully using a 100% Anonymous process?

For the opening project of NYIOP's 20th anniversary season we will ANSWER that question with ACTION. We are going to do it.

We are happy to combine the world's only 100% blind discovery process for international opera singers with ACTUAL CASTING.
Come show the power of your voice alone and be CAST in one of these online scenes.

The Artistic Team

The artistic team for this process will be a group of international professionals that have specific experience preparing scenes musically at a professional level and a director who has specific experience at creating operatic and artistic projects for video performance as well as a history of being a singer herself.

Benefits of the Anonymous Project

Since the first Anonymous Audition Project in early 2021, NYIOP is committed to creating ongoing projects to help discover artists from all over the world based first and foremost on their singing!!

International

Open to ANYONE from any country in the world. No travel required.

100% Blind

NO CVs - NO Names - NO Pics - NO Age Limits. The entire process will be anonymous.

Artistic Team

The Team preparing the Scenes artistically is international and committed to innovative and future-focused casting

Balanced

A balanced and equitable discovery project that focuses on the voice, removing  biases and barriers.

Simple Registration

All Artists will register online and upload their materials. ONLY the audio/blind video links will be sent to the panel.

Livestreamed

The panel will choose up to 15 singers to be REVEALED via a Live Concert Event that will be marketed worldwide.

The Process

The entire process of Anonymous Casting for the scenes production will happen ONLINE - from start to finish.

The artistic team will review ALL 100% Anonymous submissions. Once all submissions have been reviewed, a certain number of chosen artists will be invited to take part in "Anonymous working sessions" with the artistic team - off-camera, with no names. After these sessions, the team will cast the scenes they feel will be best served by our Anonymous Casting process.

We expect to have several ensembles as well as numerous duet scenes presented and expect there will be somewhere between 15-20 artists actually CAST in the project. Our goal is to cast scenes from across the repertoire spectrum from Mozart to Wagner etc so that all voice types are represented.

Why NYIOP?

General info + Fees

The project has the goal of asking and answering ONE QUESTION: Can you actually CAST successfully using a 100% Anonymous process?

We will answer this question by hearing all submissions and finding the appropriate scenes that we can actually CAST by hearing ONLY the voices of the submitted registrations. If an artist is being considered for more than one possible scene, we will contact the artist and ask for their preference.

Scenes to Be Considered
We are maintaining a very long list of potential scenes (over 50 currently) with the main goal being to cast standard repertoire scenes and duets in a non-standard process to show the possibilities that exist via this process.

No Age Limits. No Names will be given to the artistic team - all registered artists will be given a number for identification for the duration of the project. No Photo, no CV, or any other Information will be given to the artistic team at any point.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

EARLY Registration Fee: $125 (EARLY deadline 15 AOctober 2021) Final Registration Fee: $150 (final deadline 23 October 2021)

ALL Registered artists that are NOT CAST in the scenes will then have a $100 credit to any NYIOP project during the 2021-22 20th Anniversary season. We plan to offer at least 20 projects over our special season, so the credit should be useful to an artist from literally anywhere in the world over the course of the season.

All Artists ACTUALLY CAST in the project will be required to pay an additional fee of $150 for the production process. Only those artists actually cast will pay an additional fee after the initial registration fee.

(For artists that find the registration fees a hardship, there are limited resources for scholarship help to reduce the fee or payment-over-time options available. If this applies to you, please write to us at info@nyiop.com. Each case will be dealt with personally one-on-one.)

First Round

Anonymous Audio/Video Submissions

  • All submissions will be reviewed by the entire artistic team.

  • ALL submissions must be either blank or black-screen video with audio only - not showing your body or face (blind), or pure audio submissions.

  • All submissions must be recorded within the past 18 months.

  • The artistic team will choose all appropriate artists under consideration to invite to the live second round hearing and those artists will be contacted for scheduling.

Second Round

Anonymous Live Zoom working sessions

  • Each of the artists being considered for scenes from the First Round Hearing will then be heard LIVE via a Zoom “working session” with members for the artistic team.  During these sessions, the musical and stage directors will discuss character and music needs, and ask the artists to demonstrate flexibility as well as the ability to follow professional directions.

  • Each selected artist will be heard OFF-CAMERA and the artists’ Zoom name must be changed to match their participant number.

  • The Artistic Team will be ON-CAMERA during the entire process.

  • This round will function like a standard "working session" where the artist interacts and experiments with options given by the team, in order for the artistic team to judge if the artist meets the needs for the roles being considered.
